Editorial policy

This page explains who writes tevanor.online, how we establish what we publish, how the site is paid for, what we refuse to do, and how to get something corrected. We publish it because a site funded by advertising owes its readers an explicit account of the arrangement.
We are paid a commission when a reader subscribes through a partner link. That commission buys advertising placement on this site. It does not buy a rating, a recommendation, the removal of a criticism, or approval over what we write. We publish no star ratings and no user testimonials, because on a commission-funded page neither would be evidence.
Who writes this site
Articles on tevanor.online are written and edited by Karen Taylor, who is also the responsible editor and director of publication for the publisher, CLEAN INŽENÝRING s.r.o.. Every article carries a named byline, a publication date and a last-reviewed date. There are no anonymous articles, no pseudonymous bylines and no guest-posted advertising presented as editorial. If an article is ever contributed by someone else, that person will be named on it.
How we establish what we publish
We work to a simple hierarchy of evidence:
- Primary vendor documentation for anything about a specific product — feature scope, platform support, pricing, terms. The vendor’s own current published information is authoritative and prevails over anything we write.
- Independent laboratory testing for claims about detection, performance and false positives. We link to the laboratory rather than reprinting a score, because scores are published per product, per version and per round, and a number copied onto a page like this goes stale immediately and can flatter a product by being from its best round.
- Published technical documentation and legislation for statements about how an operating system behaves or what a law requires.
- Explicit hedging where none of the above settles a question. If we cannot verify something, we say so, qualify it, or leave it out. We do not fill a gap with a plausible-sounding number.
Sources are listed at the foot of each article. Illustrations are original SVG diagrams we draw ourselves; we do not use product screenshots or stock photography.
How the site is funded
Entirely by affiliate advertising. When a reader follows a link marked “partner link” and subscribes to the advertised product, the advertiser pays CLEAN INŽENÝRING s.r.o. a commission. The commission comes out of the advertiser’s margin. It does not increase the price you pay, and it does not give you a worse offer than going direct.
We disclose this in four places on every commercial page, by design: a bar at the very top of the page; a disclosure box immediately after the headline and before any promotional content; a visible “partner link” label on every commercial button, including those in the sidebar; and a note underneath each button restating that we earn a commission and that it costs you nothing extra. We would rather over-disclose than have a reader feel misled.
We accept no payment for a favourable review, no payment to remove a criticism, and no payment to publish supplied copy as editorial. No advertiser sees an article before it is published and no advertiser has approval over its content.
Advertiser independence
The commercial relationship determines what is advertised. It does not determine what is said. In practice that means we will publish, on the same page as the advertisement:
- the limitations of the advertised product, including platform limitations the vendor does not emphasise;
- the circumstances in which a reader should not buy it, including where a free or built-in alternative is sufficient;
- the renewal-pricing structure, which is the part of the transaction most likely to produce a complaint later;
- the free tier’s real scope, where that differs from what the word “free” suggests.
If an advertiser were to object to accurate criticism, we would end the relationship rather than alter the article. Readers should nonetheless factor the commercial interest into how they read this site — which is exactly why we publish a method for evaluating any security suite, including this one, rather than asking to be trusted.
What we refuse to do
These are firm rules, not aspirations:
- No invented testimonials. We publish no “reader stories”, no customer quotes we cannot verify, and no user reviews. An earlier version of this site framed its main article as a reader-submitted story. It was not one. That framing has been removed and will not return.
- No invented ratings. No star scores, no “9.4/10”, no league tables. A score assigned by a page that earns commission on the product it is scoring is not independent, and presenting it as though it were would mislead.
- No fabricated statistics or specifications. No made-up gigabyte figures, install times, scan durations or detection percentages. If we cannot source a number, we do not print a number.
- No artificial urgency. No countdown timers, no “only 3 licences left”, no “offer ends tonight” unless a vendor has genuinely published that deadline. Urgency is a manipulation technique and we do not use it.
- No guaranteed-result claims. No product stops all malware, and we will not say or imply that one does.
- No impersonation. We do not present ourselves as a vendor, a news organisation we are not, or an official channel of any brand. We are an advertising-funded independent publisher and we say so on every page.
- No dark patterns and no data collection. No consent traps, no pre-ticked boxes, no e-mail capture, no cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels. See the cookie policy.
Corrections procedure
We correct errors. The procedure is:
- Write to info@tevanor.online with the page address and the passage concerned. A source supporting the correction helps but is not required.
- We aim to acknowledge within five working days.
- If the point is right, we correct the text and update the “last reviewed” date. A correction that materially changes the meaning of a passage is recorded in a corrections note on the page itself, rather than being made silently.
- If we disagree, we reply explaining why.
The main article on this site currently carries such a note, listing the unsupported claims removed from its earlier version. We publish those notes rather than quietly editing, because a correction nobody can see is not a correction.
Scope and limits
We write about consumer security software. We do not provide technical support, cannot access anyone’s account, order, subscription or billing records with any vendor, and cannot cancel or refund a purchase. Those are matters for the vendor’s own support. Nothing we publish is legal, financial or professional advice.
